Bosch logo

Bosch makes two refrigerators that have little in common at service time: counter-depth French-door models that roll into a standard opening, and Benchmark integrated columns built into cabinetry. We service both, along with Bosch freezers. Good Bosch refrigerator repair starts with knowing how these well-made but compact units are put together.

Who makes Bosch refrigerators

Bosch home appliances are made by BSH Home Appliances, a company of the German Bosch Group. BSH also sells Thermador and Gaggenau in the US. The three brands share a parts and service infrastructure, but the refrigerators themselves are built for different kitchens and budgets.

The Bosch refrigeration lineup

500 and 800 Series

Most Bosch refrigerators we see are counter-depth French-door models, built to sit nearly flush with the counters. The 500 and 800 Series names mark feature levels. Higher trims add features such as a second ice maker, an external water and ice dispenser, a convertible drawer or Wi-Fi.

Benchmark

Benchmark is Bosch’s top line. In refrigeration it includes integrated column refrigerators and freezers that take custom panels, along with other built-in models. Columns can be installed alone or side by side.

Freezers

Bosch sells all-freezer columns in the Benchmark line. Many households also rely heavily on the bottom-freezer drawer of a French-door model, which has its own fan, evaporator and defrost heater.

Bosch design details that matter for repair

  • Counter-depth packaging. Fitting full capacity into a shallow cabinet leaves little room around the evaporator, fans and ducts. A small frost buildup affects airflow sooner than in a deeper refrigerator.
  • Electronic controls. Temperature is managed by sensors and control boards rather than mechanical thermostats. A fault often shows as an alarm or an indicator on the display.
  • Home Connect. Wi-Fi models connect to the Home Connect app, which can report alerts and settings.
  • Integrated hinges. Benchmark columns use hinges that carry heavy cabinet panels. Correct adjustment is the difference between a door that seals and one that slowly leaks cold air.

Problems we commonly see

  • Ice makers that stop or produce small, hollow cubes
  • Water dispensers that drip or slow down, often from a frozen line or a tired water valve
  • A warm fresh-food section with a working freezer, usually airflow or defrost related
  • Frost on the rear wall of the freezer drawer
  • Doors or drawers that do not close smoothly or seal evenly
  • Integrated columns running long or warm because the grille or condenser is clogged

If cooling is the issue, start with our refrigerator not cooling guide. For freezer-only problems, our freezer repair page explains what we test.

Finding the model and serial number

Bosch uses a rating plate showing the E-Nr (model number) and FD (production code). On French-door models it is inside the fresh-food compartment, usually on a side wall or near the crisper drawers. On Benchmark columns, check the inside walls of the compartment first. Send a photo of the full plate if you can, since the FD matters as much as the E-Nr.

Service notes

Common Bosch parts like fans, sensors, water valves and gaskets are usually available within days through BSH’s US parts network. Control boards and Benchmark-specific door hardware can take longer. With integrated columns, we check the cabinet opening and anti-tip fastening before pulling anything forward, and we leave it secured and level when the work is done.

How a Bosch repair visit works

  1. Call or send a request

We reply within one business hour. We ask what the appliance is doing, the brand and, if handy, the model number from the label inside the door.

  2. Diagnosis in your home

A technician tests the system and finds the actual fault. The visit is $149.

  3. Written quote first

You get the price before any work starts. Go ahead and the $149 is credited toward the repair.

  4. Repair with OEM parts

Common parts are often on the truck. If one has to be ordered, we book the return visit when it arrives. Parts and labor are covered by our warranty.

Bosch repair FAQ

What do the Bosch 500, 800 and Benchmark labels mean for repair?

They are trim and feature levels. The 500 Series covers the core models, the 800 Series adds features and finishes, and Benchmark is Bosch's top line, which includes its integrated column refrigeration. Within freestanding French-door models, the cooling systems are broadly similar, so diagnosis is too. Benchmark columns are built-in appliances and take more time to access.

What is the E-Nr on my Bosch refrigerator?

E-Nr is BSH's term for the model number, and it is printed on the rating plate along with an FD number. The FD is a production code that tells us roughly when the unit was built. Bosch sometimes changes parts partway through a model's production, so both numbers help us order the right part the first time instead of guessing.

Why is there frost on the back wall of my Bosch freezer?

A thin, even frost that clears on its own is normal between defrost cycles. Heavy frost on the rear panel, or ice building in one area, points to a defrost problem, a door that is not sealing, or warm air leaking in somewhere. Check that the freezer drawer closes fully and that nothing is caught in the gasket. If the frost keeps returning, the defrost system needs testing.
