Thermador logo

Thermador’s Freedom Collection is built around refrigerator, freezer and wine columns, set into cabinetry in pairs or trios. Add the full-size built-in and French-door models and you have the full scope of Thermador refrigerator repair, which is mostly column work. We repair all of them, and we treat each column as the separate appliance it is.

Where Thermador fits

Thermador is an American luxury brand with California roots, owned since the late 1990s by BSH Home Appliances, the Bosch Group’s appliance company. Its sister brands in the US are Bosch and Gaggenau. Thermador sits at the luxury end, with professional-style cooking, column refrigeration and panel-ready designs.

The Freedom Collection and other refrigeration

Freedom columns

The heart of the line is the Freedom Collection of integrated columns: all-refrigerator, all-freezer and wine units in several widths. They can be fully panel-ready or finished with Thermador’s stainless fronts and handles in the brand’s Masterpiece or Professional styling. Designers often combine them, such as a refrigerator column next to a freezer column, with a wine column elsewhere.

Full-size refrigerators

Thermador also sells full-size French-door bottom-freezer refrigerators, including built-in models. These are single appliances with a refrigerator above and a freezer drawer below, so a fault in one section can affect the other.

Kitchen features

Many Thermador refrigerators have a Sabbath mode certified by Star-K, LED interior lighting and Wi-Fi through the Home Connect app. If a light, display or Wi-Fi feature stops working, cooling may be unaffected, and we check that first.

How column refrigeration changes Thermador repair

  • One appliance per column. A fault in one column does not spread to its neighbor. We confirm which column has the problem before testing anything else.
  • Heavy panel doors. Custom panels add weight. Sagging doors, gaskets that seal unevenly and hinge closers that stop pulling the door shut are common on columns that are several years old.
  • Paired installations. Columns installed side by side need the right gap and joining hardware. When either is off, condensation can form in the seam.
  • Front-breathing condensers. Built-ins take in and exhaust air through a grille. Lint and dust there make the compressor work harder.

Problems we commonly see

  • A refrigerator or freezer column warming while the display looks normal
  • Ice makers in freezer columns that stop, overfill or freeze into a block
  • Frost on the rear panel of a freezer column
  • Wine column zones running a few degrees off their settings
  • Doors that no longer close by themselves

For wine columns specifically, our wine cooler repair page explains the checks we run.

Finding the model and serial number

Thermador uses the BSH rating plate, which shows an E-Nr (model) and FD (production code). On columns, it is inside the compartment, typically on a side wall near the top. On full-size models, check the walls of the fresh-food section. A photo of the whole plate is ideal.

Service notes

Parts move through BSH’s US network. Common items arrive in days, while column-specific door hardware and control boards can take longer. When a column needs to come forward, we plan for the water line, the anti-tip fastening and the neighboring columns so nothing else is disturbed.

We reply within one business hour. We ask what the appliance is doing, the brand and, if handy, the model number from the label inside the door.

  3. Written quote first

You get the price before any work starts. Go ahead and the $149 is credited toward the repair.

  4. Repair with OEM parts

Common parts are often on the truck. If one has to be ordered, we book the return visit when it arrives. Parts and labor are covered by our warranty.

Thermador repair FAQ

Can one Thermador column fail without affecting the others?

It can, and it happens often. Each Freedom column is its own appliance with its own compressor, controls and fan, even when two or three are installed side by side to look like one unit. A warm refrigerator column next to a working freezer column tells us the problem is inside that one appliance. We test each column on its own and quote only for the one that needs work.

Why is there moisture between my Thermador columns?

When two columns stand side by side, the cold cabinet walls meet in a narrow gap that room air can reach. Paired installations are meant to use the correct spacing and joining hardware to prevent condensation there. If moisture appears between columns after an install, a move or a cabinet change, the joining hardware or spacing is the first thing we check, followed by door seals.

Is Thermador related to Bosch?

Both brands belong to BSH Home Appliances, part of the Bosch Group, which also owns Gaggenau. They share a parts and service infrastructure in the US. The refrigerators are not the same product, though. Thermador's column refrigeration and professional styling are aimed at a different kitchen, and its parts are specific to those models.
