Dishwashers and laundry built ASKO’s reputation in the US; refrigeration, much less so. That makes ASKO refrigerator repair uncommon, but we diagnose an ASKO the same way we would any modern refrigerator, freestanding or built into the cabinetry. The main extra step is confirming part availability, which we do during the diagnostic.

Who makes ASKO

ASKO is a Swedish brand. It became part of the Slovenian appliance maker Gorenje in 2010, and Gorenje has been owned by Hisense since 2018. In the US it is best known for its dishwashers, washers and dryers. Its refrigerators are less common here, and the model and serial number on the rating label are how we identify yours and its parts.

Inside an ASKO refrigerator

Whatever the exterior, an ASKO refrigerator uses the standard parts of a modern refrigerator: a compressor and condenser, an evaporator with a fan on frost-free models, a defrost heater or a cold-wall defrost cycle, a drain, electronic controls and magnetic door gaskets.

Integrated models add one more layer. The refrigerator sits inside a cabinet, the cabinet door is mounted on the appliance door, and air moves through vents in the toe kick or the cabinet. Blocking that ventilation with a solid kick panel causes the unit to run long and warm.

ASKO refrigerator problems we commonly see

  • Fresh-food section warm: evaporator fan, iced coil from a defrost failure, or a control fault.
  • Display or alarm acting up: a sensor or control fault; note exactly what the display shows before you call.
  • Water pooling inside: a clogged drain hole or channel at the back of the fresh-food section.
  • Running constantly after a remodel: kick panel or cabinet vents blocked by new trim.

Take this example: water collects under the crisper drawers of an integrated ASKO every week or two. The drain hole at the back of the fresh-food section is plugged with a bit of food debris, so defrost water overflows. Clearing the hole and the channel behind it usually solves it; if ice keeps forming there, we look at the control and the door seal.

Finding the model and serial number

Check inside the fresh-food compartment on a side wall, often near the crisper drawers. On integrated units, the label may be on the cabinet edge, visible only with the door open. A photo of the whole label is essential for parts lookup.

Before you call

Check the door alignment, the ventilation openings and the drain hole at the back of the fresh-food section. Our refrigerator not cooling guide covers the common causes, and our built-in refrigerator repair page explains how we handle integrated units.

ASKO repair FAQ

Who owns ASKO?

ASKO is a Swedish appliance brand. It became part of the Slovenian manufacturer Gorenje in 2010, and Gorenje was acquired by Hisense in 2018. For repair purposes, what matters most is the model number on your refrigerator's label, since that is how parts are identified, regardless of who owns the brand.

Are ASKO refrigerator parts hard to get?

They can take longer than parts for mass-market brands. ASKO's US presence centers on dishwashers and laundry, so refrigeration parts are less likely to be on a local shelf. We look up your model during the diagnostic, confirm availability and lead time, and include both in the written quote so you can decide with the full picture.

My ASKO refrigerator started running constantly after a kitchen remodel. Why?

Check the ventilation first. Integrated and built-in refrigerators rely on openings in the toe kick or the cabinet to move heat away. A remodel that adds a solid kick panel, a new countertop overhang or tighter cabinet sides can choke that airflow, and the refrigerator runs long and warm. The installation instructions list the required vent openings; we check them before testing parts.
