GE Profile Refrigerator and Ice Maker Repair
We repair GE Profile French-door, side-by-side and bottom-freezer refrigerators and the GE Profile Opal countertop nugget ice maker. Profile units run on the same core hardware as GE, but their extra features add sensors, valves and boards that need their own diagnosis.

FridgeRepair.pro is an independent repair service operated by Appliance Repair Pros. We are not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by GE Profile or GE Appliances, a Haier company. The GE Profile name and logo identify the equipment we repair.

On the inside, a GE Profile looks a lot like any other GE; from the outside, it’s a different machine. Profile is GE Appliances’ step-up line, so the sealed system, fans and defrost parts are close cousins of standard GE hardware. What changes is the number of features riding on top (door ice compartments, autofill pitchers, touch controls and Wi-Fi), and those are where a good share of GE Profile refrigerator repair calls start.
Where GE Profile sits in the GE family
GE Appliances, owned by Haier since 2016, uses Profile as the bridge between the core GE line and the design-led Café brand. In practice that means more counter-depth and French-door models, more dispenser options, and more electronics. Because so much is shared with standard GE models, parts availability is strong, which is a real advantage over many European brands at the same price.
The ice side of GE Profile
In-fridge ice makers
Many Profile French-door models make ice in an insulated compartment on the left fresh-food door. It is a convenient layout and a fussy one. The compartment depends on a seal against the cabinet and a steady flow of freezer air, so a tired gasket, a cracked duct seal or a slow fan shows up as clumped ice, a jammed auger or water dripping onto the shelf below. Some Profile models also have a second ice maker in the freezer drawer.
The Opal nugget ice maker
The GE Profile Opal is a countertop machine that makes soft, chewable nugget ice. It is not a refrigerator part at all: it has its own small refrigeration system, a water reservoir and a motor-driven auger. Scale is the most common enemy. Seattle-area tap water is relatively soft, which helps, but scale still builds over time and the machine needs regular descaling. Our ice maker not making ice guide covers safe first checks.
Be realistic about the Opal. It is a countertop appliance, and if the sealed system fails the repair will rarely make financial sense. Pumps, sensors and drain issues are more often worth fixing.
Problems we see most on GE Profile
- Frozen or clumped ice in the door compartment: door seal, duct seal or airflow, before the ice maker itself.
- Autofill or dispenser not working: pitcher sensor, water valve or the control board that runs them.
- Touch display unresponsive or blank: connection faults between the door and the main board, or a failed display board.
- Water inside the fresh-food section: a frozen or blocked defrost drain, or a leak at the door ice compartment.
- Opal slow or silent: scale, a clogged water path, or a pump or motor fault.
Model numbers, labels and connected features
The rating label on Profile refrigerators is usually on an upper side wall of the fresh-food compartment. On the Opal, look on the back or underside of the machine. Many Profile units connect to the SmartHQ app, and an app alert is a useful clue, so screenshot it before you call. We still diagnose at the unit, because an app notice tells us which system complained, not which part failed.
GE Profile appliances we service
GE Profile refrigerator repair
GE Profile refrigerators are mostly French-door and counter-depth designs with dispensers, connected controls and convenience features layered on GE's cooling platform. When something fails, it is as often a feature component as a cooling part.
GE Profile ice maker repair
Profile's best-known ice maker is the Opal, a countertop nugget ice machine with its own water tank. It is sensitive to mineral scale, so descaling history is one of the first things we ask about.
How a GE Profile repair visit works
Call or send a request
We reply within one business hour. We ask what the appliance is doing, the brand and, if handy, the model number from the label inside the door.
Diagnosis in your home
A technician tests the system and finds the actual fault. The visit is $149.
Written quote first
You get the price before any work starts. Go ahead and the $149 is credited toward the repair.
Repair with OEM parts
Common parts are often on the truck. If one has to be ordered, we book the return visit when it arrives. Parts and labor are covered by our warranty.
GE Profile repair FAQ
My GE Profile Opal makes ice slowly or stopped altogether. Is it broken?
Not necessarily. Nugget ice machines scrape ice off a chilled cylinder, and mineral scale on that surface slows production and can stop the machine. Run the descaling routine in the owner's manual first, using fresh water afterward. If the Opal still makes little or no ice, runs loudly or leaks from the base, the problem is mechanical or electrical and worth a diagnostic, though on an older unit replacement may make more sense.
Why does my GE Profile French door fridge have ice stuck in the door compartment?
The ice maker in many Profile French-door models lives in an insulated box on the fresh-food door, cooled by air ducted up from the freezer. If the door gasket around that box leaks or the duct seal is damaged, warm moist air gets in and the ice fuses into a block. A fan or damper problem can do the same thing. We check the seals and airflow before replacing the ice maker itself.
Can you fix the autofill pitcher on a GE Profile refrigerator?
Usually. The autofill feature relies on a sensor that detects the pitcher, a water valve and a control signal. Common causes of trouble are a dirty or misaligned pitcher, a weak valve and a fault in the control that runs it. We test each piece in order, because replacing the board first is the expensive guess and is often not the answer.
