Frigidaire Refrigerator Repair
We repair Frigidaire top-freezer, side-by-side and French-door refrigerators, including Gallery and Professional models. A warm refrigerator section usually traces to the air control, the evaporator fan or the defrost system, and those repairs are generally worth making.

Frigidaire refrigerator problems we see
- Top-freezer: cold freezer, warm refrigerator. On many Frigidaire top-freezers, the refrigerator section gets its cold air from the freezer through an air control. If that control sticks, the vent is blocked, or the evaporator fan stops, the lower section warms first.
- Side-by-side dispenser stops giving water. The water line runs through the freezer door, and it can freeze there. A failing inlet valve or a dispenser switch can cause the same complaint.
- French-door ice compartment frosting up. On Gallery and Professional French-door models with the ice maker in the fresh-food section, a worn compartment seal lets in moist air. Frost builds, cubes fuse together, and the auger can't move them.
- Squeal or chirp from the freezer. A noise that stops when you open the freezer door is usually the evaporator fan motor. Worn bearings or a blade brushing against ice are the two common causes.
- Frost on the freezer's back wall. Heavy, uneven frost points to the defrost heater, defrost thermostat or the timer or control that runs the cycle.
- Water under the crisper drawers. A clogged or frozen defrost drain sends meltwater into the fresh-food section instead of the pan under the refrigerator.
Dial controls or touch controls, the same handful of components fail across the whole Frigidaire range. That range runs from simple top-freezers to side-by-sides with through-the-door ice and water and Gallery and Professional French-door models. Frigidaire refrigerator repair starts by identifying the style, which tells us where to look.
Frigidaire refrigerator repair by configuration
Top-freezer models
Frigidaire builds a lot of top-freezer refrigerators, and they’re mostly mechanical. There’s a thermostat, a defrost timer or simple defrost control, one evaporator in the freezer, a fan, and an air control that feeds the fresh-food section below. That simplicity is good news for you. Parts are easy to find, and repairs are usually quick.
The weak points are predictable. Evaporator fan motors wear out and get noisy, defrost parts fail and let the coil ice over, and the air control can stick. On older units, the start relay on the compressor is another common part to replace.
Side-by-side models
Side-by-sides put the evaporator behind the freezer’s rear panel and push air into the fresh-food side through a damper. Through-the-door ice and water adds a water valve, tubing that runs through the door hinge, and an ice maker and auger in the freezer. A water line that freezes inside the door is a familiar side-by-side complaint, and it usually has a cause worth finding, such as a freezer set too cold or a door that doesn’t seal.
French-door Gallery and Professional models
These have touch controls, more sensors and, on many models, an ice maker in an insulated compartment high in the fresh-food section. Diagnosis takes a bit longer but follows the same logic as the simpler units. We confirm cold air is being made, then confirm it’s getting where it needs to go.
What we check on a visit
We start by measuring both compartments and checking whether the compressor, the condenser fan and the evaporator fan are running. That alone separates most problems into two groups.
If the freezer is cold and the refrigerator isn’t, we check the damper or air control, look behind the freezer’s rear panel for a frost-choked evaporator, and confirm the fan is moving air. If both sections are warm, we look at the condenser coil, its fan, and the compressor’s start components, and only after those do we test the sealed system.
On ice and water models, we follow the water from the supply valve through the filter, the inlet valve and the lines to the dispenser and ice maker. On Gallery and Professional models, we also compare the sensor readings with our own measurements before deciding anything about the control board.
Sealed-system repairs, when they’re needed, are done by technicians who hold EPA Section 608 certification.
Before you call
- Check both controls. Top-freezers often have separate settings for each section, and one is easy to bump.
- Clear the vents. A bag of frozen vegetables pushed against the vent in the freezer can starve the refrigerator section of cold air.
- Clean the condenser. Unplug the refrigerator and vacuum the grille and coil area at the bottom.
- Listen for the evaporator fan. If you hear nothing from the freezer while the compressor runs, mention it when you call.
- Read up on the symptom. Our refrigerator not cooling guide explains what each pattern usually means.
Is a Frigidaire refrigerator worth repairing?
Almost always, for fans, defrost parts, dampers and air controls, thermostats, valves and ice makers. Compressor or sealed-system work on a basic top-freezer that’s 10 or more years old rarely makes financial sense, and we’ll tell you that up front. Our repair or replace guide goes through the decision, and the Frigidaire brand page covers the rest of the lineup. Frigidaire’s sister brand has its own page under Electrolux refrigerator repair.
How a repair visit works
Call or send a request
We reply within one business hour. We ask what the appliance is doing, the brand and, if handy, the model number from the label inside the door.
Diagnosis in your home
A technician tests the system and finds the actual fault. The visit is $149.
Written quote first
You get the price before any work starts. Go ahead and the $149 is credited toward the repair.
Repair with OEM parts
Common parts are often on the truck. If one has to be ordered, we book the return visit when it arrives. Parts and labor are covered by our warranty.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my Frigidaire refrigerator warm but the freezer is cold?
The refrigerator section has no cooling coil of its own on most Frigidaire models. It relies on freezer air, so anything that stops that air causes this symptom: a frosted evaporator from a defrost failure, a stopped evaporator fan, a stuck damper or air control, or food blocking the vent between the compartments. Clear any blocked vents first. If the problem persists for a day, call us.
Why did the water dispenser on my Frigidaire side-by-side stop working?
Start with the filter, because an overdue one restricts flow. If the ice maker still works but the dispenser doesn't, the line inside the freezer door may have frozen, often after the freezer was set colder than usual or the door was left ajar. If nothing gets water at all, the inlet valve or household supply is the likelier cause.
Is a Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator harder to repair than a basic model?
It has more to check, not harder repairs. Gallery and Professional models add touch controls, more sensors and often an ice maker in the fresh-food section, so diagnosis takes longer. The parts that fail are mostly the same kinds of parts: fans, defrost components, sensors, dampers and valves. Once we've isolated the fault, the repair itself is usually routine.
Should I fix a 12-year-old Frigidaire top-freezer?
For a fan, thermostat, defrost part or air control, usually yes. Those are inexpensive repairs, and a top-freezer with a sound cabinet can keep running well past that age. For a failed compressor or a refrigerant leak, usually no, because the repair costs approach the price of a new top-freezer. We'll tell you which case you're in after the diagnosis.
