Electrolux Freezer Repair
We repair Electrolux all-freezer columns and upright freezers. Most are frost-free with electronic controls, so a warm freezer usually means a defrost, fan, sensor or door-seal problem, and those are worth fixing.

Electrolux freezer problems we see
- High-temperature alarm and a warming cabinet. With frost packed behind the rear panel, the defrost system has failed. Without that frost, we look at the evaporator fan, the condenser fan and the compressor.
- Ice maker not producing in the freezer column. The ice maker needs steady water pressure, an inlet valve that opens fully, and a fill tube that stays clear. A tube that freezes again and again points to a dripping valve or an airflow problem.
- Door gap on a paired installation. Columns installed side by side need careful alignment. A door that rubs its neighbor or sags on its hinge leaves a gap in the gasket, and frost builds right at that spot.
- Sweating on the cabinet face around the door. Many freezers keep the front edge of the cabinet warm with a low-wattage heater so it doesn't collect moisture. If that edge stays wet, the heater or its circuit may have failed.
- Ticking or scraping from inside the cabinet. That's usually the evaporator fan blade hitting ice, which is a sign the defrost system is falling behind.
- Controls ignore input or the display flashes. A control lock, a recent power interruption or a failing sensor can all confuse the panel. We test the sensors before condemning the board.
An Electrolux all-freezer column or upright that stops holding temperature points us first to the defrost system. These freezers are frost-free and controlled electronically, so after defrost we check the fans, sensors and door seals, the usual suspects on any frost-free freezer. Every Electrolux freezer repair is quoted in writing before any work starts.
How an Electrolux all-freezer column works
An all-freezer column is a full-height freezer with no fresh-food section. Its evaporator sits behind a rear panel, a fan pulls air across the coil and through the cabinet, and a defrost heater melts frost off the coil on a schedule set by the control. The meltwater runs down a drain to a pan underneath, where warmth from the machine compartment evaporates it.
Columns are often installed next to an all-refrigerator column. The two look like one appliance but run independently. A warm freezer column beside a cold refrigerator column tells us the problem is entirely inside the freezer, which narrows things down quickly.
Why the frost location matters
Frost on the food and the inside walls means humid air is getting in, usually around the door. Ice hidden behind the rear panel means the defrost cycle has stopped working. The first is a door or gasket problem; the second needs a part. Our freezer frost buildup guide shows how to tell which one you have.
Electrolux freezer repair: what we check
The defrost system
We test the defrost heater, the defrost sensor or thermostat, and the control’s defrost output. Melting the ice without identifying the failed part only resets the clock, and the freezer will warm again within days or weeks.
Fans and airflow
The evaporator fan inside the cabinet and the condenser fan in the machine compartment both have to run. A fan blade touching ice makes a distinctive ticking, and a condenser fan that’s slowed down lets the compressor overheat. We also make sure the grille at the base isn’t blocked.
Controls, sensors and alarms
A temperature alarm is a symptom, not a diagnosis. We compare the sensor readings with the air temperature we measure and confirm the control is acting on correct information. A sensor that reads a few degrees off can make a healthy freezer run too warm or too cold.
Doors, gaskets and the cabinet edge
We check gasket contact around the whole door, hinge adjustment, and the alignment between paired columns. If the cabinet edge sweats, we test the heater that keeps it dry.
The ice maker
On columns with an ice maker, we check water pressure, the inlet valve, the fill tube and the ice maker module’s own cycle.
What you can check first
- Close the door firmly and look for packages, bins or a folded gasket that might hold it open.
- Check the settings and the control lock on the panel.
- Listen with the door closed. A steady fan sound is good; ticking or scraping is a clue worth reporting.
- Clear the base grille of dust, with the power off.
- Don’t chip at the ice. A knife or screwdriver near the evaporator can puncture the tubing and turn a simple fix into a sealed-system repair.
Is an Electrolux freezer worth repairing?
In most cases, yes. Defrost components, fans, sensors, gaskets, the cabinet-edge heater and ice makers are all reasonable repairs on a freezer in this class. A sealed-system failure is a bigger decision that depends on the age and condition of the unit, and any refrigerant work is done only by EPA Section 608-certified technicians.

How a repair visit works
Call or send a request
We reply within one business hour. We ask what the appliance is doing, the brand and, if handy, the model number from the label inside the door.
Diagnosis in your home
A technician tests the system and finds the actual fault. The visit is $149.
Written quote first
You get the price before any work starts. Go ahead and the $149 is credited toward the repair.
Repair with OEM parts
Common parts are often on the truck. If one has to be ordered, we book the return visit when it arrives. Parts and labor are covered by our warranty.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my Electrolux freezer alarm going off?
The alarm sounds when the cabinet is warmer than it should be or a door has been open too long. Start with the simple causes: a door blocked by a package, a gasket folded over, or a recent long shopping unload. If the door is shut properly and the alarm keeps returning, the freezer is losing ground, most often because of a defrost, fan or sensor fault.
Can an all-freezer column be repaired in place?
Most repairs can be done in place, including fans, sensors, controls, gaskets, the ice maker and many defrost parts. Some jobs need the column brought forward out of its opening, and on a paired installation that has to be done carefully to protect the neighboring column, the cabinetry and the floor. We'll tell you before we start if that's necessary.
How long will food stay frozen while I wait for a repair?
According to USDA guidance, a full freezer holds a safe temperature for about 48 hours with the door closed, and a half-full one for about 24. Keep the door shut, group items together, and add bags of ice if you have them. If the alarm shows the cabinet climbing quickly, move the most valuable items to another freezer or a cooler.
Why does my freezer ice maker make small or hollow cubes?
Small, hollow or misshapen cubes usually mean the tray isn't getting a full fill. The usual causes are an overdue water filter, low household water pressure, a partly frozen fill tube, or an inlet valve that's starting to fail. Replace the filter first. If the cubes stay small, we test water pressure at the valve and check the tube.
