In Clyde Hill, refrigerator repair might mean a freestanding fridge in a remodeled rambler or a panel-ready built-in in a house that was finished last year. We fix both, along with freezers, ice makers and wine coolers. The town is small and almost entirely residential, on the hill between downtown Bellevue and SR 520.
Mid-century houses and new custom builds
Clyde Hill was largely built out in the decades after World War II, and a lot of those original houses are still standing, many remodeled. Over the years, a growing number have been torn down and replaced with much larger homes, so the housing changes lot by lot rather than street by street.
That split shows up in the kitchen:
- Older and remodeled homes usually keep a freestanding refrigerator, often a counter-depth model chosen during a remodel, sometimes with a second fridge in the garage.
- New homes lean toward panel-ready built-ins, column refrigerators and freezers, drawers built into the island, and a beverage center or wine cooler in a lower-level bar.
Our refrigerator repair page covers freestanding units. For the built-in side, see built-in refrigerator repair.
Built-in refrigerator repair in new homes
In a newly built house, some refrigerator problems come from the installation rather than the appliance. These are the ones we look for first:
- A unit that isn’t level, so a heavy panel door doesn’t swing shut and seal on its own
- A water line kinked or pinched when the refrigerator was pushed into its opening
- A toe-kick or top grille blocked by trim, so the condenser can’t move air
- Panels that rub, keeping a door from closing fully
Some of these are simple adjustments. Others need a cabinet or trim fix after we’ve identified the cause, and we’ll tell you which is which.
Refrigerator noises worth a repair call
In the older houses, the freestanding refrigerator is often the one that starts making new sounds. Some are normal: gurgling refrigerant, a soft hum, the crack of the ice maker dropping cubes. These usually aren’t:
- Clicking every few minutes from the bottom back, with the fridge warming up. The compressor is trying to start and failing, often because of the start relay or overload, sometimes the compressor itself.
- Scraping or ticking from inside the freezer. The evaporator fan blade is catching on ice, a sign the defrost system isn’t clearing frost.
- Buzzing when the ice maker tries to fill, but no ice appears. Usually a failed water valve, a frozen fill tube or a closed supply.
- A loud rattle from underneath. A worn condenser fan or a loose drain pan.
Note when the sound happens and where it seems to come from; it narrows things down before we arrive.

Repair service in Clyde Hill: FAQ
Our house was just built. Who do we call about a refrigerator problem?
Start with your builder and the appliance manufacturer's warranty, since a brand-new unit is normally covered and installation problems may be the builder's responsibility. Once the coverage has expired, or the problem is clearly something it doesn't include, call us. We'll diagnose it and give you a written quote.
Can you work on a refrigerator in a lower-level rec room or bar?
Yes. Undercounter refrigerators, beverage centers and wine coolers in a basement bar or media room are part of our everyday work. Those units often sit in closed cabinetry with little airflow, so they're worth checking if they seem to run constantly or struggle to stay cold. Before you call, make sure the vent grille at the bottom of the unit isn't blocked by a rug, a basket or trim.
Where should the technician park?
Your driveway is ideal. Clyde Hill's streets are quiet, but some are narrow and on a slope, and the technician may need to go back to the van for tools or a part. If the driveway is gated or being used, a note about the best nearby spot helps.
