Fife is a small city between the Port of Tacoma and Milton, right on I-5, which makes it one of the easier places for us to reach for refrigerator service. Housing is a mix of apartments, townhouses and single-family homes, with the more established neighborhoods up in Fife Heights. Our work here covers refrigerators, freezers and ice makers in every part of town.
Homes in Fife
On the valley floor near the freeway, housing is mostly apartment complexes and newer townhouse developments. Up in Fife Heights you’ll find established single-family neighborhoods with more variety: some original kitchens, some remodels, and plenty of second refrigerators in garages.
Refrigerators in the newer townhouses are usually mid-range side-by-side and French-door models with ice makers and electronic controls. Apartments tend to have simpler top-freezer units that are inexpensive to keep running.
What we see most
The calls we get from Fife homes are the ordinary ones:
- A fresh-food section warming up while the freezer side stays frozen
- Water leaking onto the floor from a clogged defrost drain or a loose supply line
- Ice makers that slow down or stop
- Freezers in garages that frost up because the door isn’t sealing
None of these is unusual, and most are repairable. Our refrigerator repair page covers the diagnosis, and freezer repair covers standalone freezers.
Fix it or replace it?
A basic top-freezer refrigerator in an apartment is one of the cheapest appliances to keep running. A defrost heater, thermostat or fan motor on one of these is normally worth doing. The math changes when the compressor or sealed system fails on an older unit, because the repair can approach the cost of a new one. We’ll tell you where yours stands after the diagnosis.
Newer French-door models in the townhouses are a different story. They cost more to replace, so even larger repairs, like an ice maker assembly or a main control board, usually make sense.
Before the visit
For townhouses, tell us where we can park, since many developments have tight guest parking. For apartments, mention the gate code or buzzer and whether the property manager needs to know we’re coming. Inside, we only need a clear path to the refrigerator and room to pull it out a little from the wall.

Repair service in Fife: FAQ
Do you come to Fife Heights as well as the valley side of town?
We cover both. Fife Heights is up the hill on the north side of town, while most of the apartments, townhouses and businesses sit on the flat land near I-5 and the Puyallup River. Give us the full address and a nearby cross street when you book, since Fife borders Tacoma and Milton and map apps don't always agree on where one ends and the next begins.
My refrigerator is noisy since we moved into a new townhouse. Is something broken?
Not necessarily. New refrigerators make sounds older ones didn't: fan whir, water valve clicks, cracking as the ice maker releases cubes. A refrigerator that isn't level can also rattle or hum against the cabinets. If the noise is a loud grinding, a rhythmic knocking, or comes with temperatures drifting warm, that points to a fan or compressor issue and is worth a visit.
Who should call you if I rent my apartment?
Usually the landlord or property manager, since the refrigerator belongs to them. Tenants can call us directly too, which works fine as long as the owner agrees to the visit and the cost. Give us both phone numbers and we'll make sure the written quote reaches the person approving it.
