Auburn straddles the King and Pierce county line, and for fridge and freezer repair it behaves like two different places: the older neighborhoods on the valley floor around downtown, and the newer developments up on the hills and plateau. We cover both. The appliances, and the trip to reach them, differ between the two.
Valley floor and the hills
Downtown and the surrounding valley neighborhoods are flat and close to the main roads. Lea Hill, West Hill and Lakeland Hills sit above the valley, and getting up to them adds time, especially at rush hour. It doesn’t change whether we can come, only how we plan the route.
Give us the neighborhood as well as the street address. If you’re up on the plateau, calling before mid-morning leaves the most room to fit you in.
What’s in Auburn kitchens
Older homes near downtown
Many homes near downtown and in south Auburn are older houses and small ramblers. Kitchens tend to be compact, and the refrigerator is often a top-freezer or side-by-side model that has been replaced once or twice. Repairs on these are usually straightforward: a defrost heater, an evaporator fan, a thermostat or a door gasket. We’ll tell you if the unit’s age makes the repair a poor value.
Newer neighborhoods on the hills
Lakeland Hills and much of Lea Hill are newer subdivisions and townhouse communities, with French-door refrigerators, through-the-door ice and water, and the electronic controls that come with them. Here the calls lean toward ice makers, water valves and control faults. Some developments have HOAs with parking rules, so let us know where a work van should go.
Freezers get a lot of use here
Many Auburn households keep a separate freezer, chest or upright, for bulk food, often in a garage or utility room. These units are simple, which is good news, but a failure can mean a lot of food at risk. Common causes are a worn lid or door gasket, a failed defrost component on frost-free uprights, or, less often, a sealed-system leak. Frost-free uprights are more convenient than a manual-defrost chest, but they have a heater, timer or control board, and a fan that a chest freezer doesn’t, so there’s more that can fail. Our freezer repair page explains how we approach each one, and our guide to a freezer that isn’t freezing covers what you can check yourself.

Repair service in Auburn: FAQ
Does it matter that my Auburn address is in Pierce County?
Not for us. Auburn spans both King and Pierce counties, and parts of Lakeland Hills are on the Pierce side. We treat the whole city the same way. What does help is knowing if you're on the valley floor or up on Lea Hill, West Hill or Lakeland Hills, since that affects how we route the technician's day.
My chest freezer is running but the food is soft. What should I check first?
Make sure the lid closes flat and the gasket isn't torn or folded, then feel the sides of the cabinet. Many chest freezers use the outer walls to shed heat, so they should feel warm while running. Walls that stay cool while the freezer runs constantly can point to a sealed-system problem, which needs a technician. Move the food to another freezer or a cooler with ice while you wait.
There's water on the floor in front of my refrigerator. What causes that?
The usual sources are a blocked defrost drain, a drain pan that's cracked or overflowing, a loose or split water supply line, or an ice maker that overfills. Turn off the water supply valve behind or below the unit and see if the leaking stops. If it does, the water line or valve is the likely culprit. If water keeps appearing, especially under the crisper drawers, the defrost drain is the next suspect.
