FridgeRepair.pro is an independent repair service operated by Appliance Repair Pros. We are not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by Fisher & Paykel or Haier. The Fisher & Paykel name and logo identify the equipment we repair.

A Fisher & Paykel freestanding French-door model and a CoolDrawer share very few parts. That’s the first thing to know about Fisher & Paykel refrigerator repair: the line runs wider than most luxury brands, from ActiveSmart freestanding refrigerators to integrated column refrigeration, CoolDrawer multi-temperature drawers, freezers and wine columns. Each family is built differently, and we adjust the approach to match.
About Fisher & Paykel
Fisher & Paykel was founded in New Zealand and is owned by Haier. Its products are known for practical design ideas, such as drawer-based appliances and refrigerators that adapt their cooling to how they are used. The company also owns DCS, which makes outdoor kitchen equipment, including outdoor-rated refrigeration.
The Fisher & Paykel refrigeration lineup
ActiveSmart refrigerators
ActiveSmart is the name for Fisher & Paykel’s freestanding refrigerators: French-door, bottom-freezer and counter-depth models. The ActiveSmart system uses sensors to manage cooling and to adapt defrost to how often doors are opened, rather than defrosting on a fixed clock.
Integrated column refrigeration
Integrated columns are fully built in and take custom panels. An all-refrigerator column, a freezer column and a wine column can be combined to suit the kitchen. Each column is a separate appliance with its own sealed system and controls.
CoolDrawer and refrigerator drawers
CoolDrawer is an undercounter drawer that can switch between freezer and refrigerator modes at the push of a button. Fisher & Paykel also sells integrated refrigerator drawers for undercounter installation.
Series naming
Newer products are grouped into Series levels, such as Series 7, 9 and 11, that indicate the design and feature tier. The Series number is not the model number. We need the code from the rating label to look up parts.
How the design affects Fisher & Paykel repair
- Adaptive defrost. Because defrost timing depends on use, a defrost fault can show up irregularly. Frost on the rear panel or a fan noise that comes and goes are clues.
- Drawers are sealed appliances. A CoolDrawer or refrigerator drawer is a complete refrigeration system in a small space. Access is from the front, and seals and runners take a lot of daily wear.
- Integrated columns hang heavy panels. Hinges need adjustment over time, and a door that does not quite close lets warm air in and causes frost.
Problems we commonly see
- A warm fresh-food section in an ActiveSmart model, usually from frost on the evaporator or a fan fault
- Ice makers that stop filling, or ice that clumps in the bin
- CoolDrawer units that stop holding their selected mode temperature
- Drawers that do not close smoothly or seal fully
- Column doors that sag, rub or do not close by themselves
For built-in columns and drawers, our built-in refrigerator repair page covers how we handle integrated units. For freezer columns and drawers set to freeze, see freezer repair.
Finding the model and serial number
On freestanding models, the label is inside the fresh-food compartment, usually on a side wall. On columns, look inside on a side wall near the top. On CoolDrawer and refrigerator drawers, open the drawer fully and check the frame or side of the cabinet opening.
Service notes
Common Fisher & Paykel parts usually arrive within days, while some column and drawer parts take longer. We confirm availability before quoting so you know how long a repair will take.
Fisher & Paykel appliances we service
Fisher & Paykel refrigerator repair
ActiveSmart freestanding French-door, bottom-freezer and counter-depth models. Ice maker faults, a warm fresh-food section and doors that drift are the calls we see most.
Fisher & Paykel built-in refrigerator repair
Integrated column refrigerators, integrated French-door and bottom-freezer units, and undercounter refrigerator drawers. Most of these hide behind cabinet panels, so access and hinge adjustment shape the job.
Fisher & Paykel freezers
Integrated freezer columns, the freezer sections of full-size models, and CoolDrawer units set to freeze. Heavy frost and ice makers that stop are typical problems. About freezer repair
Fisher & Paykel wine coolers
Integrated wine columns and undercounter wine units with separate zones. We look at sensors, fans and door seals when a zone drifts from its setting. About wine cooler repair

Fisher & Paykel repair FAQ
Who owns Fisher & Paykel?
Fisher & Paykel started in New Zealand and still runs its design and engineering from there. Haier, the Chinese appliance maker, has owned it since 2012. Fisher & Paykel also owns DCS, the outdoor kitchen brand. Day to day, the ownership changes little for repair. What matters is the model and serial number on your unit, which we use to order the exact part.
What is a CoolDrawer and can it be repaired?
CoolDrawer is Fisher & Paykel's undercounter drawer that can switch between freezer and several refrigerator temperature modes. Inside it is a compact, self-contained refrigeration system with its own controls and fan. It can be repaired like any other refrigerator: we test temperatures, the fan, the controls, the drawer seal and, when needed, the sealed system. Drawer runners and seals wear with daily use and are common replacements.
Why does my Fisher & Paykel refrigerator door not close by itself?
On freestanding models, the refrigerator should lean back slightly so the doors swing shut, and the leveling feet can drift over time. On integrated columns, a heavy cabinet panel and years of use can pull the hinge out of adjustment. Check that nothing is blocking the door and that the bins are not overloaded. If it still will not close, the hinge or the unit's leveling needs adjusting.
