About Admiral
Admiral is a historically significant US appliance brand that began as a Chicago-based consumer electronics maker in the 1930s before expanding into refrigerators and other major appliances in the 1950s. The brand was acquired by Magic Chef in 1979, which was in turn acquired by Maytag Corporation in 1986. Admiral became Maytag's budget sub-brand, produced in parallel with Maytag and Magic Chef models sharing common platforms and parts. When Whirlpool acquired Maytag in 2006, Admiral came under Whirlpool ownership but the brand was largely retired from active production by approximately 2007, with the last new Admiral refrigerators sold through retailers around that time. Parts remain available for most Admiral models through Whirlpool/Maytag parts networks. Admiral refrigerators were basic, durable top-freezer and side-by-side units sold at entry-level price points.
