# KitchenAid Refrigerator, Ice Maker and Wine Cellar Repair

We repair KitchenAid freestanding and built-in refrigerators, undercounter clear-ice makers and wine and beverage cellars. KitchenAid is Whirlpool Corporation's premium line, so freestanding models share parts with Whirlpool while built-ins and ice machines need their own expertise.

FridgeRepair.pro is an independent repair service operated by Appliance Repair Pros. We are not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by KitchenAid or Whirlpool Corporation. The KitchenAid name and logo identify the equipment we repair.

The KitchenAid name covers four quite different kinds of refrigeration. The freestanding French-door refrigerators are close relatives of Whirlpool models; the built-ins are a separate, cabinet-anchored product line; and the undercounter ice makers and wine cellars are standalone machines with their own quirks. KitchenAid refrigerator repair covers all four, and our approach changes with each.

## KitchenAid within the Whirlpool family

Whirlpool Corporation has owned KitchenAid since 1986 and positions it as the premium step above Whirlpool and Maytag, with [JennAir](https://fridgerepair.pro/brands/jennair/) sitting above it. KitchenAid freestanding refrigerators are known for storage features and finishes rather than radically different engineering. Some models advertise the Preserva food care system, KitchenAid’s name for its approach to humidity and air filtration in the fresh-food compartment.

## Freestanding KitchenAid refrigerators

Most freestanding KitchenAids are French-door or four-door designs, often counter-depth. Mechanically they behave like their Whirlpool siblings. The ice maker is commonly housed in the fresh-food section, so ice clumping, a jammed auger or meltwater on the shelves often traces back to that compartment’s seal and airflow. Defrost failures, worn fans and water-valve leaks round out the usual list.

## KitchenAid built-in refrigerators

KitchenAid’s built-ins are designed to sit flush with cabinetry, either in stainless or with custom panels. They are anchored to prevent tipping, and the machine compartment sits behind a grille that must be removed to clean the condenser or reach the components. Because they are built into the kitchen, replacing one means matching the opening and panels, which usually tips the decision toward repair. Our [built-in refrigerator repair](https://fridgerepair.pro/built-in-refrigerator-repair/) page covers what’s involved.

## KitchenAid ice makers and wine cellars

### Undercounter clear-ice makers

KitchenAid’s 15-inch ice machines make clear ice by running water over a chilled plate, building up a slab layer by layer, then releasing it onto a heated grid that cuts it into cubes. Impurities stay in the water instead of the ice, which is why the cubes come out clear. That process is sensitive to scale, water pressure and drainage. Most calls involve a scaled plate, a failed drain pump, a water valve or a dirty condenser. See [ice maker repair](https://fridgerepair.pro/ice-maker-repair/) for our general approach.

### Wine cellars and beverage centers

These undercounter units breathe through the front grille. Keep that grille clear and the glass-door gasket intact, and most will run for years. When one drifts warm, we check airflow first, then the fan, sensor and controls.

## Problems we see most on KitchenAid

- **Freestanding:** frozen or clumped ice in the fresh-food ice compartment, defrost faults, leaks at the water valve.
- **Built-in:** a dirty condenser behind the grille, fan failures, door alignment problems.
- **Ice makers:** scale, drain pump failures, low production.
- **Wine cellars:** blocked front airflow, door seals, sensor drift.

## Where to find the model number

On freestanding and built-in refrigerators, look inside the fresh-food compartment on a side wall or near the top. On undercounter ice makers and wine cellars, the label is often visible when the door is open, along the inside edge or on the frame behind the toe grille. Share the full model number when you book so we know which of the four product types we’re coming to fix.

## KitchenAid appliances we service

- [KitchenAid refrigerator repair](https://fridgerepair.pro/brands/kitchenaid/refrigerator-repair/): KitchenAid freestanding refrigerators are mostly French-door and four-door models, many counter-depth, with a few side-by-sides. They run on Whirlpool platforms with upgraded storage, finishes and controls.
- [KitchenAid built-in refrigerator repair](https://fridgerepair.pro/brands/kitchenaid/built-in-refrigerator-repair/): KitchenAid built-ins are 36-, 42- and 48-inch side-by-side and bottom-freezer units in stainless or panel-ready form. They are anchored into cabinetry and need more care to access than freestanding units.
- [KitchenAid ice maker repair](https://fridgerepair.pro/brands/kitchenaid/ice-maker-repair/): KitchenAid's standalone ice makers are 15-inch undercounter machines that make clear ice by freezing water on a chilled plate. They need a drain, a clean water supply and regular cleaning.
- [KitchenAid wine coolers](https://fridgerepair.pro/wine-cooler-repair/): KitchenAid undercounter wine cellars and beverage centers are front-vented for flush installation. Most problems come down to airflow at the toe grille, door seals or temperature sensors. About wine cooler repair

## How a KitchenAid repair visit works

1. **Call or send a request:** We reply within one business hour. We ask what the appliance is doing, the brand and, if handy, the model number from the label inside the door.
2. **Diagnosis in your home:** A technician tests the system and finds the actual fault. The visit is $149.
3. **Written quote first:** You get the price before any work starts. Go ahead and the $149 is credited toward the repair.
4. **Repair with OEM parts:** Common parts are often on the truck. If one has to be ordered, we book the return visit when it arrives. Parts and labor are covered by our warranty.

## KitchenAid repair FAQ

### Why is my KitchenAid undercounter ice maker making thin or cloudy ice?

Thin, cloudy or slow ice usually means mineral scale on the freezing plate or water distribution, a restricted water supply, or a dirty condenser making the machine run warm. Run the cleaning cycle described in your manual and clean the front grille. If the ice stays poor, a water valve, sensor or refrigeration issue needs a technician's diagnosis.

### Does KitchenAid make the same refrigerator as Whirlpool?

Many KitchenAid freestanding refrigerators share a platform with Whirlpool and Maytag models, including cabinets, sealed systems and core parts. KitchenAid adds different interior layouts, finishes, controls and features. The built-in refrigerators and undercounter ice makers are separate product lines, and they don't have mainstream Whirlpool equivalents, so their parts are more specialized.

### Can you service a panel-ready KitchenAid built-in without damaging my cabinets?

Yes. Most work on a built-in, including fans, controls, condenser cleaning and water valves, is done from the front through the grille or toe kick without moving the unit. When a repair requires sliding the refrigerator out, we protect the floor and surrounding cabinetry and take care with the custom panels. We'll tell you in advance if that step is needed.
